Research & Evaluation

You’ve worked with us to analyse your data and identified that there is a road safety issue, but what do you do next?

Commissioning Agilysis to assist you with research and evaluations will bring an evidence-led approach to your road safety and active travel interventions. We will help you to challenge assumptions and redefine problems to identify alternative best practice strategies and solutions to increase effectiveness.

We have a solution-based approach to addressing problems.

We tailor evaluation and research services to your needs, from offering advice on designs and research methods through to providing full independent research projects, acknowledging that each project is different and requires a unique response.

Why Research and evaluate?

How will you know what the best practice approach to designing and delivering is?
How will you ensure you maximise your resources by not reinventing the wheel?
How will you make sure that your solution is the most appropriate method for addressing the behavioural issue you are seeking to resolve?
How will you know that there are no unintended side effects?

Projects typically include some or all of the following:

  • creating logic models to explain how the intervention will meet these aims and objectives
  • selecting the most appropriate evaluation design and research methods
  • coding behaviour change techniques used in interventions
  • defining and refining clear aims and objectives
  • literature reviews and strategy assessments
  • statistical testing
  • project management
  • results analysis
  • report writing

Primary Research

Why Primary?

There are a number of reasons why you might need to commission primary research. It could be that you need better insight into a behavioural problem or to understand the barriers to modal shift. There may be a need to reach out to colleagues, clients or potential target audiences to gather information on their channel preferences or desired methods of engagement.

Examples

We have undertaken primary research for a wide range of reasons including:

  • gathering sectoral insights from road safety officers and their approach to behaviour change design
  • collating qualitative evaluation data to identify barriers to scheme roll-out
  • reviewing existing interventions to highlight opportunities for collaboration, weaknesses and best practice
  • community engagement to unravel motivations for modal shift.

Secondary Research

Why?
We conduct secondary research for many different purposes. We use international best practice to review national government, partnership and authority’s road safety strategies and action plans, comparing activities against policy frameworks, such as the Safe System. These reviews provide an opportunity to share good practice from elsewhere; ‘sense check’ strategies against existing frameworks; and identify gaps which could be strengthened.

Our background and heritage starts almost 20 years ago when our founders were managing and running safety camera partnerships with a focus on data and evidence to achieve speed and casualty reduction. We have continuted to provide services to many police forces and partnerships with analytical report, data tools, and a popular enforcement management platform.

This year we are launching more tools as well as a more comprehensive package of services for areas undertaking speed management activities through enforcement, education and community engagement. If you would like to know more please review our current solutions.

Velocity is our speed management suite featuring a combination of tools suitable for police forces and partnerships who care about speed management. We are currently consulting with existing clients and will opening the package to remaining police forces in the coming weeks.

Police Force and Partnership Solutions

V4

V4 is a web-based tool which provides a complete solution for managing enforcement infrastructure. Designed by professionals with many years’ experience of the issues, V4 addresses all the practical challenges of organising site based road safety enforcement interventions; including activity logging, data control, management reporting and partnership working.

Speed Compliance Tool
speed compliance tool

A powerful yet easy-to-use solution providing access to information about speed limits and average speeds on roads across Great Britain, but focussed on your local area. The online dashboard is priced on a per-user basis to keep costs down and is available for a small fee for existing CrashMap Pro users. Customers only pay for the coverage they need meaning lower costs for authorities with shorter road networks.

Site Selection Tool
site selection tool

The online system takes road network layer, such as the custom Agilysis Road Network supplied with our RiskMap product, and then proceeds to match the most recent collision data supplied by the local analyst. Matching takes place based on road number to ensure more accurate results for classified roads, while unclassified roads are matched based on proximity.

Each potential site is ranked and users can re-run the analysis using varying criteria to see which are the best fit for their requirements.

CrashMap Pro
crashmap pro

A professional online mapping solution with enhanced analytical power that is quick and easy to use and allows users to filter, select and download official STATS 19 data on a map in a highly visual way.

We have worked with private sector companies including those running large fleets such as National Express, Insurance Companies including Direct Line, as well as large and small transport consultants.

Our offer helps people access easy-to-use data on road casualties to allow the inspection of risk at specific locations, development sites, depots, stores, and transport hubs. Please check out the types of services we have provided in the next section.

RiskMap

One of the key responsibilities of local authorities and police forces is to review locations where there are high collision rates. Understanding which roads are high-risk and which are safer than average is difficult without access to large datasets, and a comprehensive set of analytcial tools. RiskMap provides quick and easy-to-interpret answers which has attracted attention from many clients in different sectors keen to see place-based risk analysis on roads, near trasnport hubs, or for individual road user groups.
